MILAN, Nov 23, 2004/ FW/ ---- Max Mara is one of those stable labels, nothing too edgy, commercially viable and safe. So what happens when they start to go off the rails? Is it time to start asking questions, or just pretend it didn’t happen, after all no one is perfect…but nappies?
As far as I am aware, Max Mara buyers stopped wearing diapers years ago, and probably most of their children as well. Yet obviously the design team has been sitting on the beach for far too long, especially when dresses and skirts are exchanged for sarong tied baggy crutched nappies that at times hang just above the floor.
Nonetheless, the African desert inspired spring summer 2005 collection was a steady mix of elegance and sporty chic elements.
1950’s style dresses with full skirts in bold leaf print with neat cardigans accentuate the waist, defining a feminine silhouette for a lady who embraces comfort without forgetting structure.
Tops are delicate and reminiscent of ancient wisdom and divine beauty, kaftan in style; they accentuate the breast and elongate the neck thanks to the choice soft and almost innocently youthful fabric selection.
The sun sets with a collection that will move like wild fire across the shelves next summer thanks to the guarantees that this Italian giant assures. Once it was a great pair of pants and tailored jacket.
Lets hope they manage to pull them out of the closet once again for the up and coming winter shows, cease international giggles and concentrate on giving an edge to their strong and at times genius winning simplicity.
