MILAN, Sep 29, 2006/ FW/ --- Entitled ‘Anthropological Chic’ Max Mara’s Spring 2007 collection delved into the 21st century’s definition of global village where the traditional lines that separated the world had been blurred by technology and the internet.
Modern, upbeat and futuristic without looking sci-fi, Max Mara’s clean lines and sleek silhouettes took inspiration from tribal motifs to urban cities. The African Serengeti was represented by linear and graphical designs as gray, white, aqua and deep blue were combined to become highly stylized prints.
That same print used on silk jersey was then created into a sarong-inspired wrap mini dress and a boat-necked shift dressed cinched at the waist with a cummerbund belt.
A new fabric introduced this season, the ‘gorilla knits’ became blousons and A-line skirts, giving the collection a unique texture. Still, this is only one of the innovations. Capes and raincoats were created using rubberized cotton, resulting to a very futuristic look.
Trousers are slim and the jackets and the jackets cut comfortably. The jackets followed the traditional length, or cropped short.
A very interesting look, which, by the way will surely be a rave among the twenty-something is the shirtdress that reaches just above the knee worn with a mini skirt. From afar, it gave the impression of being an apron dress. It’s versatility cannot be denied, it’s almost getting two dresses from one outfit.
Eveningwear turned golden and silvery with semi-precious stones as embellishments. Again, the inspiration was ethnic, the Grecian look emphasized by the gladiator sandals.
Modern, contemporary and in-tune with the times, Max Mara’s Spring / Summer 2007 collection is groundbreaking in its own right. The mixture of cultures from today and times past touches on the current zeitgeist of popular culture.
