Sportmax's Rebel Yell

MILAN, Mar 6, 2003/ FWD/ --- Sportmax, the swinging little sister brand to the classic
Italian sportswear company MaxMara, seems to have run away from its perfect-as-pie hometown
roots.
The Sportmax girl is all grown up and has hitched a ride -- wearing thigh-high black vinyl
boots no less -- in a fast car headed for Tinseltown, leaving her elegant sportswear family
in the dust.
Double-faced cashmere coats and elegant slacks, staples at Max Mara, wouldn't get her past
the velvet rope at any club in town. So it's a good thing she's packed right.
Skintight pants, especially those featured on the plunging V-front stretch jumpsuits, will
surely open the doors to many an evening establishment.
So will super-short skirts, sometimes in flouncy sheer pleats, paired with sexy backless
mohair sweaters or ruched shrunken jackets.
She probably won't be walking much since she's refused to cover her bare legs in anything
but lethally high and sharp over-the-knee boots - in black leather or black plastic.
From the look of things, our girl may have taken one too many trips to the local S&M shop.
Although the cutout leather neck cuffs that extended down the chest or backside at times
had an artistic flair, some of the hard-core harnesses and metal trim on clingy brief
dresses looked like a rookie's contrived effort to be cool.
It wasn't all sexed up, though. After all, though she chooses to avoid the yacht club,
this stray cat does remember where home is.
For less rebellious moments, there were plenty of good looking sporty pieces, like slim
jackets and fitted skirts, which featured patches of black and white, falling like
lovely graphic wings.
Several simple long-sleeved dresses and tops in silver and gray, featuring swirling stitch
designs, were pared down chic.
To show up back at Mom and Dad's suburban sprawl, there were beautifully constructed black
and white coats trimmed in fox fur and bound together with subtle leather straps.
Perfect camouflage for the racy black spandex mini-dress, slashed into drapey nothingness,
which she's wearing underneath.
