MILAN, Mar 1, 2004/ FW/ – The dramatic roaring hails of The Great Gig In The Sky by Pink Floyd and the best of 1970’s flowing fluidity is the perfect combination for a collection that is rich in detail and warm with charm.
Anna Piaggi in her press notes calls it ‘hot couture’, the Missoni woman wears a pencil thin coat in bouclè weave tweed, long flounced skirt in powder beige open work silk and top in silk and wool, or perhaps she prefers double breasted cabans or a little cape draped over thin printed pants and stunning knitwear.
Angela Missoni, Creative Director of Missoni womenswear line, transforms ideas into coherent reality in this collection, acute detail and trimmings such as knee high school girl socks worn with stilettos, gloves, flowers as accessories and the occasional clutch bag all add to the mood and balance of the wardrobe she proposes for fall 2004/05.
Stripes being the Missoni trademark, are kept traditionally zigzag but they are also redesigned into thick colourful horizontal rainbows for overcoats and cabans. Tweed pants and simple monotone cashmere sweaters and tops are stable elements of the collection.
Hemlines vary from short hot pants to long floor sweeping evening dresses, but there is never a hint of vulgarity, even in the printed transparencies, the Missoni woman is sensual, but practical and has class to sell.
Fur is the softest Scandinavian mink though its use is limited and not overwhelming, for an ‘at all costs’ exaggerated luxe, there is no need, the collection stands out on its own with delicious knit and attention to sartorial detail in tapestry jackets and satin and silk eveningwear that sparkles in the moonlight.
Playful but with just the right amount of seriousness, fringes, wide sleeves and dancing volume, the lightless and apparently nonchalant cuts and styling are the essential precise attentions that make this Missoni wardrobe one of richness and magic.
