Milan, Jun 29, 2002/FWD/ --- For once, critics in Milan got to attend a fashion
presentation that made a little sense.
Missoni showed its spring summer 2003 collection Tuesday in the basement of an old Milan
theater with a multi-media presentation that underlined who the house sees as its natural
consumer target: hip Internet Age travelers.
Models, including the ubiquitous Matthew Avedon (grandson of Richard), appeared on stage
before giant back screen projections of Milan Malpensa airport or exclusive beaches on the
Italian Riviera.
The rest of the wall in the circular basement was covered with monitors showing planes
taking off and folks checking in.
For next summer, Missoni is influenced by the Hollywood hit movie "Monsoon Wedding," with
Indian colors like ochre, saffron and red dominating. The cut stayed loose at Missoni with
easy drawstring pants and casual vests, the favored attire for a sunset drink in Kerela or Goa.
The house also showed coordinated funky bags, belts and shoes, guaranteeing that the
Missoni man is the brightest in any check-in line.
"I wanted to remind people that we all spend our lives traveling. Airports and traffic can
create a lot of stress so our clothes have to be right for that," explained the house's
designer Luca Missoni.
Then, while chatting to journalists, Luca suddenly laughed, as his image appeared smiling
in a traffic jam projected on the huge screen.
