MILAN, Dec 21, 2003 – 50 years of fashion, a birthday to celebrate and definitely the most important show of Milan fashion week last October. Rosita and Ottavio Missoni were married in 1953, a marriage of which was born one of the most successful hands on family business’s in fashion today.
Their style revolutionised the concept of colour and knitwear, a form of design that is still current today and as their most well known designs moved down the catwalk in a retrospective celebration the cuts and colours were just as modern and cutting edge as in days past.
Family, trust and faith are keys to their success and as the final emotional look left the stage and the duo took their bow, the 250 workers that are part of this triumph helped celebrate as they stood in tiers dressed in white in a perfectly fitting background that made the show complete.
Masculine and feminine elements harmoniously blended together for the spring summer 2004 collection designed by Angela Missoni prior to the retrospective.
While maintaining classic Missoni style, she created looks with modern trends such as ethnic animal prints on transparency, micro shorts, pretty jackets and high waistlines reminiscent of the 1970’s.
Halter necks, sparkles and a strapless jumpsuit all part of the timeless Missoni look. Brightly coloured stripes and patterns, sundresses and comfortable pants that fall lightly on the silhouette.
From small workshop to international appreciation, creators of fashion and a distinctive style that is recognizable the world over. Missoni today continues strongly on a roll that is more than good luck, but 50 years of hard work. Happy Birthday.
