Missoni Spring 2006: Flowers & Stripes and Everything Nice
Milano Moda Donna (Milan Womenwear Show) Spring 2006
MILAN, Sep 29, 2005 /FW/ --- Missoni is undergoing a renewal and reinvention under the creative helm of Angela Missoni, daughter of Ottavio & Rosita who launched the label in 1958.
Founded as a knitwear company 50 years ago, the label had transcended from its roots of innovative knitwear to a full fashion line offering both men and women’s clothing.
And Angela’s mission – to bring the company into an entirely new level, pushing it forward to the 21st century, and with her Spring / Summer 2006 collection, it is easy to see that she is well on her way!
Bright and colorful, there is cheerfulness and buoyancy, the buoyant feeling translated into sleeveless floral print frocks that billows with the wind.
The effect is created on the Grecian inspired striped jumper that reaches to the ankle with the waist emphasized by horizontal stripes that are twisted covering the torso from the waistline to the bustline.
The silhouettes go beyond borders, too, as each piece can easily be worn by women from all walks of life from different parts of the world.
Like the double-breasted blue trench coat with wide lapels and embellished with flat piping of a different shade all around. This look will be at home in New York to Los Angeles, including Boise, Idaho and Kansas City.
Still, it is in the romantic mini-dresses in ruffles, prints or Missoni’s zigzag stripes that Angela showed her inventiveness best.
A lavender cardigan in ruffles paired with a bandeau that ends with a bow. Matched with lightly fitted trousers or skirts, it’s a new take on the twin set.
Yet the most important innovation, which is ‘seen’ but very unobtrusive, is the fabric. Angela Missoni had created knitwear that is so light that very few even notice that the dresses and cardigans that drapes flawlessly on the model is made of knits.
