Missoni was founded in Gallarate, Varese, Italy in 1953 by Ottavio Missoni and his wife Rosita
(Jelmeni) Missoni.
They produced their first collection for the Risnascente Store in 1954 and
it was in 1958 when the first Missoni label was introduced.
And that was just the beginning. Ottavio and Rosita had three children and the whole family
now runs the Missoni business.
The Missonis creates exceptional knitwear. You can always identify
a Missoni label by its fluidity and special effects, and the colors which has an affinity to art.
Don't wonder why that is so. It's because Ottavio Missoni thinks
of the Missoni creations as a marriage between art and business.
Their awards include (to name a few):
- Neiman Marcus Award- 1973
- Bath Museum of Costume Dress of the Year Award - 1974
- FGI Design Award - 1991
- Munich Mode-Woche Award 1992
- Dallas Historical Fashion Collectors' Stanley Award - 1999
