MILAN, Feb 28, 2004/ FW/ – A paper pun, a gorgeous paper Moschino graffiti rose brooch as invitation and then the paper drapes at the end of the runway.
But no, the collection was made of neither paper nor roses; it was a 1940’s and 1950’s multi storey dolls house of looks in a dress up ala Moschino.
A jitterbug ball full of pretty girls dressed in little dance shoes and fur-lined boots dressed in wool and printed floral fabric.
Vintage suits and coats are sweet with fur collars as ruffles and bows in the front of shirts delicately cascade to meet skirts full of tulle volume and triangle panelling.
There is Chanel influence as the world’s most well-known jacket design ever was given playful bow appliqué and reworked with fur finishes.
Thin fur sashes were worn across the torso on various occasions and were fun on the black dresses made of light fabric that danced down the runway.
Good girls all have their little secrets, like metallic gloves, great rings and jewellery and animal printed chiffon.
Volume appears at the back of tailored jackets and overcoats, and the knitwear is far too well done for the average housewife.
Overcoats had large buttons and at times were sleeveless and placed over long floor sweeping dresses in a play on elegance and not taking the whole fashion world too seriously.
Moschino is colourful and fun, nostalgic and romantic for a girl who likes to mix and match the old with the new and always appear feminine, yet not too girlish and removed from the hustle and bustle that surrounds us daily as the greyness of most metropolis needs a rainbow boost every now and then to break the monotony.
