Moschino, Muted but Always a Little Mad

Milan, Jun 19, 2002/FWD/ --- To the novice, the Moschino men's collections must seem like
strange affairs.
For a start, the models always are decked out with odd "accessories" -- ostrich feathers
sprout from the shoulders, rabbit pelts swaddle the waist as belts.
However, when you strip away the wacky styling, there are plenty of fine clothes on display:
surprisingly practical broad striped suits, waxed cotton pants and acid-dyed jeans.
That's why the show is consistently crowded with American and Japanese retailers -- behind
the superficial absurdity and madness lies some smart merchandising and talented tailoring.
This season, Moschino picked up on the poetic mood sweeping Italian men's wear, and judging
from the twitching nostrils of foreign buyers, the collection will do nicely, thank you.
