MILAN, Oct 3, 2002/ FWD/ --- The prevalent mood on Milan's catwalks this week is hot and
steamy sex.
With nearly every collection serving up micro minis in come- hither slinky jerseys, it was
shocking, then, to see frilly and sweet garments on the runway of Moschino's Cheap & Chic -
a house which normally revels in steamy oeuvres.
Femininity is by no means out of place this season, but Cheap & Chic plucked their
girlie-girl right out of a 19th century Victorian boudoire, sending us back to an era
which has seen a lot of runway time in past seasons.
Despite the familiar ground, the flouncy looks, like curled lace trimming on frilly dresses
or ribbon plastered short jackets, still managed to be fun and playful.
But most importantly, these pieces were wearable, which is more than can be said for many
of the racy items filling other collections this season.
Many women, for example, will feel at home in the multi-layered, puffed out or floor grazing
skirts which were horizontally patched together in sweet, quilt like fabrics.
With rows of fresh flowers and a very reasonable skirt rise, an updated baby doll style
dress will also find many springtime takers.
Although she wasn't blatantly asking for sex, this season's Cheap & Chic ragazza still
managed to be sexy in her own understated girlie way.
Flirty, coy girls with wild frizzy curls and faces painted up like dolls had just a
touch of naughtiness behind their demure ploy.
The tartiness came on stronger with the pairing of wickedly high, lace up Victorian boots
with short flouncing skirts.
With Moschino's new mix this season, perhaps they should have called this collection
"Cheap & Sweet."
