MILAN, Oct 2, 2004/ FW/ – The most entertaining and genial opening for a show so far this season has to go to the fun savey house of Moschino for Cheap and Chic, with three gorgeous postcard Grandmothers curiously walking the runway like they had just stepped from their retirement village homes in Florida and onto Hawaiian soil for their annual souvenir collecting getaway.
An island vacation to the soundtrack of ‘The Kings’ serenading voice is still probably as current a dream for any girl in 2004 as it was in the 1950’s, so thus said what a fun loving idea for a spring summer 2005 collection: Hawaii and Elvis.
Wicker chairs decked out the front row, possibly to match the large farm boy sunhats, but although the fashion schedule had been running late since the morning, over an hours delay for a 5pm show was far too lengthy, especially for long time professionals like Aeffe.
All things were 1950’s-ish from tacky souvenirs to volume puffed skirts, checked shirts to floral print and large appliqué. Then there were all things Hawaiian from the ukelele, grass skirt inspired streamer ribbons used on both tops and skirts all worn with large sun protective hats and glasses.
Ruffles and tiers for skirts and light sun dresses will be the big smash next year, when elegance will be in abundance even when in casuals, and girls will be dressing more like ladies rather than be kitted out in skin tight erotic dream aggressiveness, except that is for the mini shorts.
Moschino Cheap and Chic is always fun, next season it will be not only colorfully cheerful, but fruity as well.
