Moschino Moschino DALLAS, Apr 25, 2007/ FW/ --- The catwalk as a political platform is not new but Moschino’s irreverent treatment of fashion combined with a golden political message of peace to diffuse nuclear bombs make people look twice.

First, we have to remember that since its founding, Moschino’s designs are often involved with their message, whether it’s a form of text on the cloth or a visual pun, like in this case the peace symbol on shirts or bags.

Second, for Moschino, the clothes being presented on the runway is just one half of the story. The other half is the message, wherein sometimes it is obvious, and on other times, the message is given like breadcrumbs because you have to see the whole collection in its entirety to discern it.

For Fall 2007, it was a little bit of both. Using the hippie icons of peace and love, seen on shirts, bags and fabric, the message was clear.

Black tank tops that reached to the thighs had a peace sign; a white tee with images from the 1960s peace movement was layered under a snug fitting black suit jacket and paired with a black tulip skirt. A red heart shaped purse with the word love written on it completed the written message of ‘Love and Peace.’

So, where did the gold and all the glitter come from? And before you ask, yes… it was a tight and coherent collection with black and gold as the dominant color. Gold and cream brocade coats, tulip skirts, Capri length pants; it was a vision of the ‘1950s golden years of peace and style.’

World War II was a decade away, and the whole world was enjoying an economic boom, plus of course the baby boom. In short, in recent history, it was the ‘golden years’ of the 20th century in terms of peace.

Never mind the Korean War; the U.S. called it a police action. Never mind that the Vietnam War was brewing and the French pulling out from it former colony. The 1950s is still classified up to today as the innocent years.

So, for Moschino it was the perfect era to get inspiration and show it in gold!
