MILAN, Feb 28, 2002/ FWD/ --- On the first day of "relevant" collections in Milan, Moschino
Cheap & Chic headed for the English countryside with a series of looks ideal for a remake
of "Gosford Park."
There was enough tweed in this fall-winter 2002 collection to keep a few scores of guests
snug in a chilly Restoration pile.
Paired with polite sweaters and cardigans with applique blossoms, suede jerkins and
floral-patterned shirts, they made for many cool and clever looks.
With a gang of retailers scribbling notes, out came the models in a slew of fine individual
items - puff-shouldered knits, ruffle-necked tops and fur coats with Victorian ribbons.
And, after the murder is solved and you can get back to work, Cheap & Chic had plenty of
great suits, in black bouclé wool with trim little jackets and flared below-the-knee skirts,
that could be worn easily uptown and down.
Cheap & Chic has always been for women who want practical fashion with a bit of a kick.
This time the collection was a little stiff - how many of the line’s target clients will
really go for the school marm, floor-length tweed skirts and the clinging faded pink knits?
But all told, this collection was one of the strongest in quite some time.
Now detective, as we are all present, would you kindly reveal the mystery?
