Moschino Menswear Fall 2007: An Array of British Icons
Milan Menswear Show Fall 2007

Moschino MILAN, Jan 19, 2007/ FW/ --- During a serious season here in Milan, Moschino’s tongue-in-cheek attitude towards fashion curved a little towards sobriety, yet it still took a very whimsical stand as it focused on the British male iconography.

From the traditional British gentleman to the Eton chap, then onwards to prep school boys to rock stars in their luminous suits and skinny jeans, Moschino’s take on the return to masculinity explored the varying degrees and layers of the male id while proposing looks that are highly wearable yet out of the ordinary.

Take the white tuxedo shirt, for example. Usually elegant and polished with its tiny pleats in front, Moschino used ruching to give it volume and an entirely different attitude!

The white t-shirt was given long sleeves and a ‘collar and necktie’ was printed in front. Worn with a red suit with a black collar, the look will actually pass for a ‘formal suit,’ that might even gain entrance to 10 Downing Street. Yet, this is really something that Chris Martin will wear when Coldplay is on tour.

Yet, to say that the collection is just a parade of what men will wear depending on the type of work they do will be an injustice to the collection. To say that the collection ‘has something for every man,’ will be adding injury to insult.

Because the truth of the matter is that, the collection is very coherent and tight, stayed with the theme, even with the innate diversity of the muses.

The suits with rounded shoulders tapering slightly at the waist are fine examples of masterful tailoring. Add a little deconstruction like in the deep blue double-breasted six- button suit wherein the right lapel looked unfinished and lines of tiny ‘basting’ in front, the very refined look because futuristic without looking sci-fi.

The diverse quality of the inspiration also allowed unusual combinations such as a long sleeved shirt printed with the word ‘LOVE’ in red all over matched with a very formal vest and pleated trousers.

Silver shoes, white wingtips and formal tuxedos shoes might look incongruent as a group, yet, when used in this collection, they gelled like everything else.
