DALLAS, Dec 9, 2003/ FW/ --- Narciso Rodriguez, two-time CFDA Designer of the Year winner explored the woman’s feminine side with his Spring 2004 collection.
The designer once said, “Something can be very classic and completely modern,” at the same time. His Spring 2004 collection shown in New York last September is an extension of this design philosophy.
Below the knee, body-hugging dresses, with spaghetti straps or bare-shoulders are classic cuts.
The bright red stripe adorning a khaki dress, and khaki piping on a red empire waist garment are as contemporary as it could get.
The Capri pants in white, black and khaki were paired with blouses cinched at the waist, showing off the woman’s curve.
The designer got playful with the skirts. Waist-hugging with seams running on the legs, it was paired with a navel-baring midrib blouse that opens in the front with a zipper.
It was understated elegance at its best.
Rodriguez who creates clothes the same way an architect approaches designing a building, used seams for structure and to create interesting fit and shape.
Case in point is the two-piece lavender ensemble. The top was shaped almost like a bustier, with two seams on each side of the front zipper where it opens. Flat lavender piping was used on the edges, framing the bodice.
The below-the knee skirt had seams running where the legs are, and flat lavender piping at the hem.
The dress is feminine, elegant, classic and modern, all rolled into one.
