Paris, Oct 12, 2001/ FWD/ --- A small crowd of bleary-eyed journalists received early wake-up
calls yesterday - the last day of the spring 2002 shows - to check out the collection of
Pascal Humbert, one of Paris' most under-recognized talents.
"Thank god it's Pascal," sighed one sleepy first-row reporter.
And showing a creatively chic collection, which masterfully incorporated couture elements,
Humbert did not disappoint. Circular cut-outs were a recurring theme - running along the leg
of well-cut trousers and knickers, around the hem of skirts, poking sexy peek-a-boo holes in
a gray leather dress, baring a bit of hip on a navy asymmetrical shift - as were oversized
fabric-covered buttons, which added a charming 1960s mod allure.
Humbert also played around with folds, looping fabric around to create a bit of volume and
stylized detailing on split jacket cuffs and dress hems.
And imbued with a sense of humor,
he pasted random images like a mask or a woman's hand on some casual pieces, the latter
positioned as though it were elegantly holding up the wearer's face.
The most original aspect of the collection, though, was the highly original use of slim leather
gloves on fitted jackets and vests, in which the fingers created a high fringed collar and
cuff detailing.
It was unlike anything ever seen before: smart, chic, creative - characteristically Humbert.
