Prada MILAN, Feb 21, 2005/ FW/ --- A poet once said, ‘Simplicity is beauty,’ and for Fall 2005, Miuccia Prada’s simple lines and almost unembellished collection is as poetic as it is refreshing and novel in this season that is marked with intricate adornments.

Miuccia who follows a drumbeat of her own, and quite a trendsetter in her own right chose to go back to the beginning of the now famous Prada minimalist looks, sending a collection wherein clothes speak for itself while superb tailoring reigns king, or in her case, queen.

Maybe, it’s because she is the only one left from the original minimalist designers. With Helmut Lang and Jil Sander, which ironically their eponymous fashion labels now belong to the Prada Group, gone from the fashion scene, Miuccia felt that she had to take up the banner and show to the world once again how simple can be beautiful and poetic at the same time.

Maybe, the statement above is just a pipe’s dream, like what another poet said. Perhaps, Miuccia just wanted a change, as she is wont to do. Her creativity is almost boundless, allowing her to change course with the blink of an eye.

She had been leaning towards demi-couture for the past few seasons, hence it is not really surprising that she decided to change course for Fall 2005.

Nevertheless, it is a stunning collection that only a poet can aptly describe. As for this journalist, I can only try…

Simple slip dresses with spaghetti straps and minimal fringe, giving it a raw feel; empire waist dresses with woven hemline, pleated skirts on bodice hugging tops with a turtleneck, women suits with token embroidery / crochet, embossed pockets and belts in an A-line day dress… all these and more define Prada’s Fall 2005 silhouette.

Now, who is it who said that ‘Less is more’ because Miuccia Prada did take that saying to heart with this collection.
