MILAN, Jun 24, 2003 /FW/ --- Miuccia Prada apparently did all she could to take the summer
out of the spring / summer 2004 men's collection.
What it all boils down to, is that eliteness, a sense of style and elegance, that counts on the
inside rather than out.
The bottom line is that appearing elegant will only be appreciated by those who are real
intenders. And the real intenders know that, what it all comes down to is 'materials'
and 'construction'.
No excess, not even in formal wear, with the classic suit almost a memory.
Bathing costumes, shorts and bermuda removed from the runway as the Prada man is destined
to stay in the city and move from one air conditioned space to another, not forgetting his
all so light cashmere pullover or cardigan.
Pensioner like, the cardigan has been reinterpreted, pushed up to the elbow under long
sleeve shirts and worn as if a jacket teamed with freshly pressed trousers and jeans.
Jeans that appear to be fresh off the press, maintaining that new denim, not worn or faded
and dare I say ripped look?
Beautiful classics mixed with sporty-looking lace up shoes equipped with rubber tacks
under the soles.
Ties are worn with and without jackets, but always tucked and hidden into shirts,
colours are not loud, and extreme in contrast so as to catch one's attention.
The style is young but not boyish, hair is short but not too short and according to Prada,
the market in Milan is in trouble. Why?
Simply because there is no real social life and hence no real need or want for fashion.
