MILAN, Jul 26, 2004/ FW/ --- Well known for breaking new grounds in fashion season after
season, Miuccia Prada is revolutionizing men’s dressing for Spring 2005 by adding accessories
on their wardrobe.
Her collection for Miu Miu Spring 2005, shown early this month in Milan makes a bold statement for men’s fashion – accessories.
And Miuccia Prada did not just add cute yet functional tote bags and eye-catching belts. She proposed a complete accessories wardrobe for the gentlemen.
Big Polynesian beads worn as necklaces or bracelets, kangol caps and berets that sometimes comes with graphical representation of petals, colorful plastic belts and buckles, neck danglers that use blown glass or crystals as charms… well, you get the picture; it’s a full on statement on accessories that can make women envious of their own men!
Miuccia Prada, who does not do anything halfway, also decided that the clothes themselves needed embellishments. Adding tiny circular or floral-shaped mirrors on the collars and on the upper bodice of the shirt, the Miu Miu gentleman will definitely be noticed and seen.
The necktie, the ubiquitous cohort of the suit became a fashion-forward fashion statement. Choosing it to be short (as in cut off right on the bellybutton), Miuccia Prada chose bright colors and graphics and then added buttons or tiny costume gems, even plastic films as tie clips.
And don’t forget the toy soldier medals, giving the look some ‘militaristic appeal’ but not staid nor conservative.
“The colors I got from the late fifties and early sixties. The buttons and mirrors, well, we tried a little bit of everything,” Miuccia Prada told reporters after the show.
All of these accessories were used to complement suits of linen and cotton micro checks. Keeping her silhouette slim, but not restrictive, the total look is about men who are fun loving and not scared to experiment.
