Miu Miu MILAN, Aug 15, 2005/ FW/ --- As the world enters the fifth year of the first decade of the 21st century, we are also witnessing a change in attitude of dressing for men, subtle as it maybe as Miuccia Prada proposed sportive and chic silhouettes for Miu Miu gents next summer.

The colors are subdued, yet bolder; the prints tiny, yet daring; the style is classic, yet innovative.

The 21st century gent does not fit any mold that had been done before. They are not the classic Humphrey Bogart of Casablanca or John Wayne of the American westerns. Nor, are they John Travolta of Saturday Night Fever or Vinni of Welcome Back Cotter.

He not the ‘metrosexual’ either that Bravo’s ‘Queer Eye For A Straight Man’ had made famous. The 21st century man is what he is – a product of a high-tech world shaped by 24-hour cable news and the Internet.

And Miuccia Prada created the perfect wardrobe for him – suave and modish, a far cry from the old-world gents, yet he takes the cues from them.

The Miu Miu gent wears a suit, though not always with a tie. And if he does, he goes for tone-on-tone look, with just hint of print for excitement. Sometimes, he tucks in the tie inside his shirt, ala John Wayne of the American Westerns.

And he looks good in his tuxedo jacket albeit without the vest, the same way John Travolta did in Saturday Night Fever.

He is also the new Vinni with his sleeveless shirts and has the sultriness of James Dean with his rolled up sleeves.

But most of all, he is himself as he mixes and matches bomber jackets from all influences be it the 1980s Member’s Only variety to the 1942 bomber pilots.

In short, these are the new classics and Miuccia Prada got it down to the last T (no pun intended) wherein all the “i” had been dotted and all the “t” had been crossed.
