Raf Simons Fall 2004
Paris Menswear Show Fall 2004
Raf Simons: Poetic As Always
By Mari Davis
PARIS, Jan 27, 2004/ FW/ --- It was a Paris moment for me last Saturday when I went to see the Raf Simons show at rue Forest, meaning I got lost on the way to the show!
Not very good with maps nor directions, I decided to go to the show about an hour early, knowing that there is a big chance that I will miss the street, which I did. And thanks to help of three very kind Frenchmen, I found the place!
With my non-existent grasp of the French language, and their minimal English, they told me where to go.
I was almost late for the show, and for all the trouble I went through to see it, Raf Simon’s show was well worth it!
For Fall 2004, the innovative Belgian designer seem to be thinking of comic book heroes, the cape crusaders that young adolescents and most of the times, adults love.
The all-black cat burglar suit will be perfect for the next remake of Batman, just add the mask and cape.
And my favorite, the all black parka jacket made to look like a cape. Full of zippers and pockets, it’s perfect for our technology-driven world wherein a PDA, a cell phone, digital cameras, extra batteries and flash cards need their own little compartments.
But, the designer did not forget the other half of the young men either. He sent updated version of bomber jackets in high-tech fabrics, oversized knit, knee-length coats and windbreakers on the runway.
Raf Simons who is known for his poetic collections did a great balancing act this season by coming up with very artistic designs and still very commercially viable.
