MILAN, Sep 25, 2007/ FW/ --- In the Northern part of Africa the sands and the sea meet and Arabian influence still pulses through its land. Hot winds called gibleh, blow through the cities stirring up not only the people of Africa but the animals too.
La Perla took emotional impulse from the gibleh and visuals from the lands of Africa to inspire its Spring Summer 2008 collection. Reaching into the creamy grains of sand to the iridescent sparkles of the sea they created a sensually intoxicating collection. Working the La Perla magic they played tribute to there tradition in lingerie and made the pieces a large part of the show that intertwined equally with there designs.
Uniting two important parts of an outfit into one stunning piece, La Perla turned bras into jewelry and Jewelry into bras. The traditional bra was reinvented into a piece that allowed for the intense embellishments to become jewelry.
Necklaces, like the bra was reinvented into new pieces that could neither be called jewelry nor clothes. Mirages of necklaces that turned into loose t-back straps that shimmered and sparkled enhanced by light chiffons. Straps were extra think and became accessories in there amass of jewels.
La Perla was bold in stating that lingerie should no longer be just an under piece but more of an accessories itself. From Madonna style out in to the open to hidden and revealed under transparent layers of fabric, the bra becomes just as important as any other piece in the outfit.
Outfits flowed in colors of sandstorms and python print chiffons. Formal African attire inspired thick macramé lace that played different roles on transparent and opaque fabrics. Macramé on a translucent iridescent sports jackets helped add form and contrast to an otherwise fluid look. Tone on tone with a short slip dress and feather bolero the macramé hinted at European influence in tribal Africa.
Feathers and snakeskin worked as accents on the liquid creams and tans adding exoticism and luxury at the same time. The collection proved that La Perla would be a name in Milan fashion for a long time. There innovation with intimates and the execution of blending them with just as creative garments resulted in a beautiful moving collection.
