Milan, Mar 1, 2001/ FWD/--- Salvatore Ferragamo's designer Marc Audibet has got one thing on
his mind for Fall 2001: jersey. The fabric came in cashmere, crepe, velvet and felt, and was
used in the trousers, skirts, blouses and capes that thronged the runway.
The Ferragamo woman hates ostentation and this collection provided the sort of reassuringly
classical looks that have made the brand so successful.
But what really drives Ferragamo, and has made the Ferragamos one of Florence's richest families,
is footwear.
The big idea this season was high platforms made of porcelain white resins and held
on with wide ribbon bands. These will retail strongly and be copied universally.
To get to the show, which opened with a little Wagner, editors had to negotiate through a
series of winding escalators and moving floorways.
By the time you actually took your seat,
you sort of expected a polite voice to call out "Passengers are requested to board immediately."
