Salvatore Ferragamo MILAN, Jan 16, 2006/ FW/ --- Previewing its Menswear Fall 2006 collection in Pitti Uomo, Salvatore Ferragamo held a presentation at its showroom in Milan and seeing the garments up close and personal emphasized the opulence of the collection.

Impalpable flannel cashmeres, superfine wools, a lingering elegance on candid cuffs and starched rounded collars, it’s for a modern day Romeo meeting his Juliet in a tryst.

Three-buttoned suits, twill handkerchiefs perched on pockets, wide brimmed felt hats, Prince of Wales check in blended colors, Salvatore Ferragamo gave a nod to the British mania that is currently raging here in Milan.

The collection is light and subtle, with high-tech fabrics intermixed with precious furs that peek on the collar or jacket hoods. Luxury is not ostentatious; rather understated, but its rhythm cannot be hidden especially with Ferragamo’s super soft velvets in dusky tones modulating sensuality in blues and blacks.

The accessories carry with them the spirit of the 1960s, blending elegance and functionality for today’s modern world.

Computer bags in polished whole alligator skins with retractable handles, extendable should straps with multi-purpose pockets – Ferragamo’s ‘Romeo’ is the 21st century’s road warrior keeping up with business with the click of a mouse.

Briefcases, reporter bags, and shoulder bags in sumptuous alligator and calfskins are part of his arsenal together with practical travel bags with the ‘gancio’ monograms.

You have to ‘catch him’ if you can in his moccasins with a cross piece, perforated derbys or ‘francesina’ lace-ups with a side buckle and alligator toe caps.

Ankle boots made of velvety hides, suede and crocodile are elegant hybrids cut above or just below the anklebone.

Polo boots in exotic hides or calfskin, and because sports is chic, he also wears ostrich and traditional leather in his soccer-inspired sneakers.
