Salvatore Ferragamo Moves Forward

Milan, Oct 2, 2001/ FWD/ --- Salvatore Ferragamo presented a very soft, very dreamy, yet entirely
sophisticated collection Tuesday morning – a collection so fresh and cooling that it might just be the
one that projects the company forward in attracting a younger, Miu Miu-wearing set, rather than its usual
conservatively dressed doyennes.
Though it incorporated myriad influences from the Victorian era to the 1920s, the collection remained
consistent in its purity of silhouette and soft, sensuous colors like wisteria and sea green, violet
and baby-blue. There were fitted but floppy pajama pants paired with tailored trench coats, long
loose muslin gowns structured by empire waists or cinch-tied collars, shoulder bearing blouses with wide
ruched trimming, a standout butter-soft grey leather coat with pink ribbon tie. Virtually every piece
was wearable, without looking retail-intended.
For evening, there were long, floor-grazing chiffon gowns in black, bronze, and green. Tutu waists added
a bit of playful coquettishness to the elegance. A Victorian lace bedroom jacket tied around the shoulders
looked entirely modern with its pretty allure.
The bags, too, were more playful than ever before. Oversized, soft leather satchels, one handle looped
over the other - it’s the sort of bag a girl nonchalantly throws everything in and loosely holds with
one finger.
All in all, it was a charming collection, without being too precious – about as sophisticated as
girlishness can get.
