Salvatore Ferragamo MILAN, Sep 25, 2006/ FW/ --- Paraphrasing an old nursery rhyme, ‘what are little girls made of’ to ‘what is Ferragamo made of?’ The answer, ‘sugar and spice and everything nice,’ aptly describes Graeme Black’s creations for Spring 2007 that brought center stage the elegance of the 1950s reworked for the contemporary woman.

Opening with a slim fitting slate blue skirt paired with a yellow collarless bolero in semi-puff sleeves, Black’s message was clear from the start, ‘gracefulness is back and elegant ladies are on the fashion front.’

With hemlines that reach just above the knee for both daywear and evening, Black opted for architectural silhouettes that retrofitted classics like the pencil skirt and petticoats, combining the sensuousness of Marilyn Monroe and the sweet countenance of Doris Day on the runway.

To say that it is a hard feat will be an understatement. To a less skilled designer, it would have been a disaster. But, with Graeme Black’s masterful execution, everything was coherent as he used color, texture and volume to keep the theme consistent.

Twin sets became tops for summer shorts while the cardigan was used as cover for a bustier top. A ribbed jersey was paired with a beige jumper dress and a tuxedo-styled golf tee became the perfect complement to loose fitting cropped pants.

The innovations are in the details like in the beige short-sleeved dress with a square neck. Cut with a wide and high waist, Graeme Black used tiny ruching on the hips for the garment to curve softly then gave it just a slight sheer for a petticoat effect.

And as always, the accessories speak for themselves. Totes, handbags and messenger bags were matched with classic Ferragamo shoe styles.

With it’s impeccable styling, a lady cannot go wrong!
