The Thomas Steinbruck Affair

New York, Feb 11, 2001 / FashionWindows --- The Thomas Steinbruck Fall 2001 Collection which was shown at the BMW showroom in Manhattan actually started January 24 when Chris Bangle, Director of Design in the Development Division of BMW Group in Munich, Germany announced the partnership between BMW and Thomas Steinbruck.

At this exclusive event for designers held at BMW of Manhattan, BMW Chief of Design Chris Bangle unveiled the BMW X coupe concept vehicle to New Yorkers and shared his vision on the future of automotive design, in a presentation entitled “Design for Life.”

Mr. Bangle surprised the crowd at the conclusion of his presentation when he invited rising fashion star, Thomas Steinbruck, to join him at the podium. Linking arms, the two designers grinned and announced a partnership that will launch on February 11, 2001, when Mr. Steinbruck will debut his Fall 2001 Fashion Collection at BMW of Manhattan in conjunction with Seventh on Sixth.

Fast forward three weeks, and the whole fashion world was at the BMW Showroom, where they were treated with two types of beauty - models wearing stunning Steinbruck creations and to a sneak peek of the BMW Z9 concept car, a look into the future of BMW interior and exterior design.

The car features elegant yet muscular exterior lines and an all-new, user-friendly interior featuring iDrive, an ergonomic concept designed to make operating the myriad functions inside the car easier. Both driver and passenger can easily see the center-mounted color monitor and operate the controller knob, which is used to adjust comfort, convenience, communications and driver assistance functions.

The "cockpit" feeling is updated with a clean, minimalist dashboard design. iDrive will be introduced to the U.S. market in the new BMW 7 series sedans at the beginning of 2002.

It was really hard to concentrate on the clothes. The car just takes your breath away. Eversince Pierce Brosnan's James Bond started driving "Beamers" the BMW that has always been a "cool" car had surpassed the definition of "cool" for a car. Being treated with a concept car, one that is not even on the road yet was more than a distraction to the average American male.

Back to fashion...

Entitled "Celebration of Women," the Fall 2001 Thomas Steinbruck Collection was designed for the modern, elegant and youthful woman whose lifestyle embodies confidence, grace and sophistication.

Using rich, vibrant earthy colors as the base pallette, the collection ranged from what a woman would wear to work, lunch, dinner and the theater. All the pieces are just beautiful and wearable.

On the BMW partnership, Thomas Steinbruck stated, “I am truly delighted to be collaborating with BMW. We have the same core values. We strive to create beautiful, dynamic, light and accessible pieces for our customers. It is all about creating a look that is very sleek, refined and elegant. I travel the globe seeking the finest quality materials for my collection and BMW does the same for its cars, motorcycles and SAVs.”

“We share a simple, clean design philosophy,” stated BMW Group Director of Design , “and view design as an expression of the emotion and passion within. We are both inspired by classics yet create innovative design. We each turn to nature and the environment for stimulation. Most importantly, Thomas and I are each completely committed to quality and meaning in everything that we create.”
