PARIS, Oct 11, 2003/ FW/ --- Even before the Paris shows started, a buzz was going on among the international fashion press about Tim Van Steenbergen, a new name on the calendar.
Some fashion editors say that he is a name to watch, while the others have branded Tim Van Steenbergen’s show as a “must see” among the young talents showing during the week.
And this afternoon at the Musée d’Art Moderne, the young designer did not disappoint his audience by presenting a very feminine and innovative collection.
First, he chose to use models that are also ballerinas. Instead of the traditional high heels and stilettos, the models wore ballet shoes, and walked on tiptoes, with the grace and agility of ballerinas.
And the clothes are simply amazing, starting with the short-cropped dark gray jacket encrusted with Swarovski crystals, wherein the workmanship reminds one of couture.
Day dresses are flowing and layered, giving a very feminine aura. Pantsuits are generously cut, and jackets short-cropped with clean sharp lines.
It’s a ‘youthful’ collection, with a target market from 18-35. But women in their forties and fifties can wear them too, because the silhouettes are timeless.
Call it youthful elegance if you want. Others might not agree with the term. But one thing is sure. Tim Van Steenbergen is a name to watch in the Paris fashion circle.
