PARIS, Jun 30, 2003/ FW/ --- It's the modern Mozart for Udo Edling's spring summer 2004
collection. A harp player strummed lightly in the background as models stood
with slick garments finished off with bows in their hair, reminiscent of
the era.
No catwalk, but a traditional presentation with the designer explaining each
piece carefully like works of art so as to leave little space for interpretation.
Tailoring and fabric are the two key elements making up the modern suit,
a collection made of "polyester and polyurethane voile, non-creasing, light
weight and washable without lining" as stated in the press notes.
The tailored jacket has unmistakable Edling trademarks such as darts on the
shoulder blades in extension of the sleeves, one slit to the right side,
sleeves are slightly curved towards the front and there are no breast pockets
for symmetry. Intelligent pleats make large pockets on some jackets and
buttons are multiple, with and without lapels.
The colour scheme is largely black and white but greys, greens, kaki and
brown are also featured. An exclusive collection with a small number of
exits, but perhaps this works in Edling's favour. Often it is better to do
a few things exceptionally well instead of numerous thing averagely.
