Valentino PARIS, Mar 5, 2006/ FW/ --- If there is a fashion god, then Valentino is his gatekeeper for glamour. Couturier to the royalty and to the stars, Valentino previewed a very comprehensive collection that oozes with youthful glamour showing a glimpse on how the young debutantes look in day dresses and evening gowns.

The stage set was dramatic, a stairway that competes with the grandeur of Scarlet O’Hara’s staircase in Gone With The Wind. But, instead of Tara, the stairs lead to glamour heaven where women wear tailored suits and dresses in black and white, tuxedo pant suit sets, fur jackets with shawl necklines, pencil slim pants in original prints, mohair cardigans and sumptuous gowns, all with Valentino’s signature bows.

It’s truly amazing how in one collection, Valentino made his label a very covetable brand for twenty-somethings and beyond.

Double layer black and white coats and jackets with wide lapels in lace using a bow with closure, then done again all beige mohair with raglan sleeves can easily become a wardrobe staple for a debutante.

Then without missing a step, Valentino shifted gear, keeping the tailored looks, this time getting inspiration from men’s clothing creating tuxedo pantsuit sets then using his signature bows as the bow tie.

Tackling street wear, Valentino style, snug fitting cardigans worn over tiny shirts paired with pencil thin pants featuring graffiti-inspired prints. He then inverted the concept with white jeans while the top is now graffiti-inspired prints.

Expanding this theme on daywear, an A-line skirt in the graffiti is paired with a leather jacket cinched at the waist with double belts, then continues it on eveningwear with tube top cocktail dress, the graffiti prints are now sequined and beaded layered over with chiffon.

A master of his craft, Valentino kept the collection tight although he shifted gears a few times. Everything gelled, everything made sense making this collection a testimony on Valentino’s longevity and continuous popularity.
