DALLAS, Jan 30, 2004/ FW/ --- Trust Valentino to come up with a collection that will literally turn heads and people to ask, “Who’s that girl?” because that is exactly what will happen when a woman wears one of his couture creations for Spring 2004.
That the clothes are beautiful, well, that’s a given. With jewel encrusted embroidery like the salmon and white number that Karolina Kurkova wore, and the all white suit jacket & skirt, paired with a caramel blouse that Maria Carla modeled, those are signature Valentino in opulence and elegance.
Add the sexy smoky eyes and big hair; you’ve got a winner. It’s reminiscent of the 1970s, when sexiness and allure was just becoming the name of the game.
Of course, being from Texas, big hair is not the past for me. It is past, present and future, since big hair is always sported in the Texas-Oklahoma area.
So, it’s really easy to imagine for me to see the beautiful Texas blondes and brunettes wearing those clothes.
Like what John Field of D Magazine said, “Valentino’s collection is so Texas.” Of course, only those of us who live in the Lone Star State will get the real meaning, that the ladies would just love it that their big hair is back in vogue even in Paris.
So, during the summer opera season here in Dallas, if I spot Valentino couture in the boxes, it will not surprise me at all. In fact, I would be disappointed if I do not see one.
Because, after all the ladies of Texas love to dress up and the price usually does not matter to them.
