R.E.D. Valentino: The King of Couture Faces Gen Y

MILAN, Jun 25, 2003 /FW/ --- It was a double show for the Roman designer Valentino last Monday, Jun 23 in Milan.

The new young R.E.D line made its debut on the Milan runway, and for the first time, Gen Y and the internet generation will come face to face with the king of couture.

R.E.D, sporty and street, is targeted for the youth market and expanded hip hop subculture.

Denim, floral, prints on t-shirts, cut off sleeves and multi colours in the form of five pocket jeans, judo pants and cotton trousers, just what the under 30's are apparently looking for.

They got off the yatch probaly before the classic Valentino man could run after them.

Which was what seemed to be implied in this double show. R.E.D. preceeded the classic and sensual Valentino man.

Valentino, who is at least two generations away from Gen Y just showed his wide-range as a designer with the R.E.D. collection.

He has his pulse on the well-heeled, and the youth of today, two groups in the extreme ends of the fashion spectrum.

And as Gen Y will say, "Pretty cool, Sir Val! Give me a high five!"
