PARIS, Mar 3, 2005/ FW/ --- Simple and honest love. An uncomplicated message from Victor and Rolf’s heart, for the love of women and knowing that essentially all females are eternal romantics whether they admit to it or not.
Bed heads and I Love You’s, as internationally acclaimed musician Tori Amos took centre stage in a fuchsia bedspread inspired outfit and fiery red hair to play for a show that was not simply genially creative but carried a much deeper meaning.
In contrasting looks of black and white the Dutch duo not only were inspired by everything bedlike, but also managed to design a superbly wearable collection that turned bed heads with hair stuck still to their pillows from the night before into well dressed alluring sleepy princesses.
Bed sheets were transformed into voluminous frilly shirts with high collared aristocratic elegance, embroided with the initials V R and soft poetic ‘I Love You’s’ scrawled romantically like lost letters.
Femininity was not only the underlying thread that tied the collection together, but was busily evident through the likes of lace, faultless bows and perfect delicate pleats like the trimming of bedspreads and ruffles.
Red seeps into the collection with such ease that a single rose turns into an entire evening dress that dances in the breeze apparently so natural one doesn’t even realize it hasn’t been there all along.
Strands of delicate pearls are both real and fictitious, either as printed blouses or straps for light and simple evening grace.
Victor and Rolf have an eye for meticulous detail to tailoring such that traditional men’s trousers with gold key chains hanging from belt loops appear as if they have always been made for the female silhouette, thin lean and at ease.
Bedspread needlework is turned into an array of skirts, jackets and pants before becoming red carpet gowns of pure sheer elegance and class.
The Victor and Rolf autumn winter 2005/06 collection is the consequence of concentrating electric eclectic energies on pure simplicity. The result is pure poetic beauty.
