Viktor & Rolf PARIS, Oct 11, 2004/ FW/ – It is an explosion, they are an explosion, be careful of the ‘flowerbomb’. The Dutch duo Viktor & Rolf have the ability to turn concept into reality, that artistic gift of taking their designs one step further and not only presenting a wardrobe, but bringing the essential essence of life to the attire; a heartbeat.

Contrastingly dramatic, this spring summer 2005 collection from Viktor & Rolf, as bad biker girls walk the runway with faces hidden beneath motorcycle helmets in an all black display of a summer wardrobe.

Take a ribbon as an idea and make a collection of it, now how one can successfully turn delicate ribbon into attitude tough girl accessory is a myth to most of us, but these Dutchmen seem to decipher the feat with ease as ribbons wind around legs and torsos becoming more and more intricate as the show goes on before taking over entire outfits as if it were poison ivy.

Ribbon aside, the collection is instead perfectly and deliciously wearable. Trousers are flat fronted and jackets fitted and tailored to give an intriguing Lois Lane working girl silhouette, sexy and slim.

Casual elements mix with the classical as drawstrings and elastic are used alongside lace inserts and girly soft shiny satin fabric.

Now, just as one thinks the fun is over it has only just begun, and in a puff of smoke the scene changes from dark to light for cotton candy sweetness. Pink, girly and more ribbons for a runway show turned into perfume launch for their new fragrance ‘Flowerbomb’ which is ironically shaped like a grenade.

Ladies are in pink and plum button down dresses, perfectly gift wrapped with bows, mini pleats, flouncy skirts and Shirley Temple curls. It is an ironically harmonious synergy between sickly sweet dress-up and inner reality that is a little less sugary.

Whether in Asian inspired looks, flowers, ribbons and bows, black or helmet attitude, this is Viktor & Rolf’s party and there will be no crying, even if you want to, its all too enthralling, personalized and full of blossoming charm.
