PARIS, Oct 3, 2005/ FW/ --- The most highly anticipated show of the day, Viktor & Rolf’s unexpected twists and turns on traditional dressing including how a runway show goes drew the full capacity crowd at the Espace Ephemere Tuileries first to organized confusion and then ooohhhs and aaahhhs as the design duo revealed their wonderfully crafted Spring / Summer 2006.
In their imitable style, the design duo turned everything upside down, much like their Milan boutique, with the designers taking their bow first, followed by the parade of models, and then the individual walks, opening with the ‘closing’ exit and then ending with the ‘opening’ look.
Everything in between, let us just say that they were in the most unexpected places, like the collar being the hemline and the hemline being the collar, like the old rose skirt and white blouse with ruffles.
Collars that became peek-a-boos on the shoulders, the placket lying diagonally instead of the expected vertical line.
Suit jackets invariably had jewel necks, as the traditional lapel became an embellishment as the tuxedo shirt lay diagonally once again.
Slip dresses were layered resulting to a monochromatic hue of beige, the spaghetti straps becoming longer as each layer went lower.
It was as if the world of fashion had just gone topsy turvy, exactly the way Viktor & Rolf want it. And we follow them; the same way Dorothy followed the yellow brick road. But instead o finding the wicked witch of the west at the end our journey, we find two creative masters who always delight us with their fantastic creations.
