PARIS, Jul 10, 2004/ FW/ --- It’s summertime and clothes should be easy to wear; just throw it all together and not worry about whether you look good or not. Yet you still look good, no matter what… That is what Wooyoungmi had in mind when designing her Spring / Summer 2005 collection.
Choosing a very neutral color palette of white, beige and different shades of gray, including silver, and very light fabrics, Wooyoungmi had effortless dressing and comfort in mind.
Slouchy pants, generously cut jackets, walking shorts and tank tops --- all of them have a trouble-free feel, perfect for the gentleman who just wants to enjoy the summer.
And the best part, all of them look stylish too. Wide strips of cloth adorned the lapels and shoulders of the jackets. Giving a nod to the two-tone trend this season, Wooyoungmi’s coats and tux have the sleeves and main torso in two colors or two kinds of fabrics.
The most inventive look is the windbreaker, presented with a demi-Nehru collar with an asymmetrical placket. And speaking of plackets, the designer decided that night, to have some sparkle; shirts should have silver threads in the placket or cuff.
My favorite though is the white tank top and white pants with a silver cummerbund. Wooyoungmi had the Star Trek logo embroidered in silver on the left hand side of the shirt.
Is the designer a secret Star Trek fan? I hope so! Because if she is, I have found a kindred spirit in the fashion world, someone who likes Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock the way I do.
