Y-3 by Yohji Yamamoto: Sportswear Has Never Looked This Good!
By Mari Davis
PARIS, Mar 3, 2005/ FW/ --- For Yohji Yamamoto’s second line Y-3, created in collaboration with Adidas, sportswear has never looked this good as the Japanese-born designer mixed art and function for Fall 2005.
Shown tonight at the Opéra Comique, it was two shows in one – the runway presentation and a concert by a 10-member male choir singing acapella from classic opera to Madonna’s “Like A Virgin,” to the very popular “Don’t You Think I’m Sexy?”
The full capacity crowd was so entranced with both of them that applauses were given to the great collection shown and the engaging concert rendered.
Lest we forget that this is a fashion show, let it be said that Yohji Yamamoto made the Adidas trademarked 3 stripes not just a logo but a fashion statement as well.
From dolman-sleeves jackets, hooded vests and quilted ski wear the 3 stripes appeared as an adornment, a logo, even as three straight lines across from shoulder to shoulder, making it part of the silhouette.
Working out and jogging just became very stylish and chic in terms of workout gear, so, even if you are sweating in the gym, you are assured that you are as modish as ever!
Adding sophistication to the line, Yamamoto also sent out fur shawls in black & white, with the distinguishable 3 stripes of course! Black mink with white mink as stripes or vice-versa, making après ski not just a meeting of tired athletes but also a party about style.
Mixing high-tech fabrics with fur, the “I just throw this old thing on” statement takes another meaning, because the skirt are now strips of fur that made to look like stripes of course, while the bodice remained as sporty as it could be.
Needless to say, this collection should be considered collectible, no pun intended!
