PARIS, Aug 14, 2005/ FW/ --- Baseball might be the great American pastime, but the Japanese are as passionate about the game as well. And for Spring / Summer 2006, Yohji Yamamoto wants the men to feel the excitement of the game.
Last month in Paris, the quintessential Japanese designer known for his innovative take on fashion proposed a very sportive summer far away from the beach and the seas and put the boys of summer center stage.
Taking inspiration from the baseball uniform, specifically the black and white outfits of the referees, Yohji Yamamoto made sure that a uniform became a fashion statement as well as a working outfit.
Why the referee’s uniform and not a baseball team as influence? Call it being politically correct, because baseball fans are as fanatic about their teams as the football fans can be.
Giving a nod to the safari jacket craze that hit both Milan and Paris this season, Yohji Yamamoto proposed a loose fitting style with a sash.
Another innovation for the bush jacket is pockets at the back, to make sure that there are places to put the modern man’s gadgets.
Baseball caps are the accessories of choice, as expected. After all, the collection is about summer sports.
So, next summer, expect the gents in the stadium to look hip and chic with Yohji Yamamoto’s menswear.
