NEW YORK, Sep 16, 2005/ FW/ --- In a massive production that can rival a Steven Spielberg futuristic movie, Yohji Yamamoto presented his Spring / Summer 2006 collection for Y-3, a brand and line that was created in cooperation with Adidas.
The venue alone was a sight to behold, with three silver runways that moves and also lit from below. But it was the backdrop that takes your breath away – a bigger than life Y-3 logo that moves and lights up like the star gate of the long running Stargate SG1 series, opening to another circle full of crystals, then finally revealing the door where models walk out.
Sending out three models at a time, one for each runway, Yohji Yamamoto wowed his audience that included Yoko Ono with artistically designed sportswear featuring the famous Adidas stripes, of course!
Yohji played with the famous logos, putting them on sleeves, on the collar, on pant trousers, including bags and satchels.
Capri pants and hoodies became fashion statements, so did sweats and running gear. Denims in different washes, high-tech fabrics flowing fluidly that you will think that they are made from natural fibers.
A master tailor, Yohji Yamamoto’s cuts and execution were flawless, each garment a statement of his artistry and mastery of his craft.
Evening gowns had never looked this way, as the Japanese designer sent out body-hugging silhouettes featuring the famous 3 stripes.
From slim-fitting pants to relax fit, from harem-inspired legs to rolled hemlines, sportswear has never looked this good!
It is so good, that it will not be surprising if someone decide to wear one of those Adidas stripes gowns on the red carpet. Now, that will be true fashion statement.
