PARIS, Jul 17, 2006/ FW/ --- With slogans like ‘YY is Useless’ and ‘YY is Helpless’ printed on tees; Yohji Yamamoto treated his fans with his quirky humor that is so lovable that you actually want to bring home what was being shown on the runway.
Yamamoto, who showed on the first day of the Paris Menswear Spring 2007, was not all fun and games though. During the first half of the show, it was all-serious with the mobster inspired clothing.
Loose fitting suit jackets, pleated pants that were held by suspenders and baggy workers jumpsuits were paired with bowler hats, kangols and berets. And to make the point clearer, but within the context of his humor, there was a shirt that said ‘Suspect.’
Models in white long sleeved tees wore ropes that were artistically knotted to make them look like necklaces. But, the knitted tank top worn over a white shirt styled to be a ‘bulletproof’ vest is just my favorite.
The accessory of choice – you guessed it… It’s the suspenders. It was worn and presented the classic way. It was also worn under the coat, only to be shown outside with a keyhole specially created in the suit to allow the strap to pass. It was even used as the ‘Y’ logo on the back of the suit!
And as one of the slogans on the tees say, ‘Yohji Yamamoto 100%’ basically describes this collection.
