PARIS, Oct 6, 2006/ FW/ --- With all the craze about mannish clothing and androgynous dressing, Yohji Yamamoto proposed his take on it for Spring 2007 in his inimitable style presenting a black & white collection of dress suits and jackets that were artsy and wearable.
Relaxed silhouettes of trousers that either came pleated or with a drawstring, and sometimes offered as transparent voile, the look might be masculine, but the femininity is also front and center.
White shirts were cut with wide cuffs that were laser cut to show off stylized flowers, black organza was layered with jacquard fabric adorned with leaf prints, while the white tank top was embroidered and cut at the back giving the impression of a cummerbund.
It was Victor/Victoria, Yohji style – the models who wore suits given a short haircut with bangs while the models who wore dresses wore long crimped hair.
It was sublime in a sense, but futuristic at times specially when the platinum blond model stomped the runway in a black shift dress wearing wire frame glasses and a necklace of fiber optic cables.
It’s familiar, yet new, creative & artsy while being very wearable and covetable. It’s Yohji Yamamoto in his element as he blended fluidity with the architectural, the man and the woman and most of all the present and the future.
