Yoichi Nagasawa Spring 2007: Blackbeard’s Princess
Paris Prêt-á-Porter Spring 2007
By Nikki Gaskins

Yoichi Nagasawa PARIS, Oct 9, 2006/ FW/ --- Yoichi Nagasawa’s Spring Summer 2007 collection was aptly named the ‘The Pirates Fiancé.’

The show began softly and sweetly with a lullaby playing as the first model floated down the runway, moving languidly too her lovers ship or staring longingly into the horizon fingering some treasure given to her for safekeeping until he returns to her, one never knows.

Yoichi waxes poetic in his uses of different and luxurious materials from satin to cotton exploring many different textures and weights. He also believes in lucky charms as many pirates do and cautions the audience to keep an eye out for these precious items.

Textured fabrics and Victorian details embellished with pleats and scalloped edges dominated the beautiful airy dresses. Tri-tiered baby dolls intricately detailed with appliqué beading and bustled shorts with attached fanny packs and attached pockets with the appearance of safari belts play with the juxtaposition between Victorian and military.

A mini dress with hanging pods, hear shaped attachment and a triton attached at the neckline was the most arresting piece. Using chain accents to create sleeves, belts, skirts and hanging accessories gave the collection a delicate fairy detail.

Grays, silvers, and beiges kept the palette muted and soft. Quilted layered tulle with sectioned pieces for volume and the classic trench military trench revisited some of the seasonal trends.

Jagged edged yet sweet fairytale princess the ideal counterpart to the roguish pirate roaming free and wild returning to his sweet with glittering accents and shiny diamonds. A beautiful delicate collection for the diamond in the rough.
