When it comes to anything fashion, a lot of us rely on the style bible – Vogue. For the coming season, Vogue have rightly stated that Spring 2018 is all about ‘feel good fashion’. It’s a very cliché statement, I’ll be honest, but in the current climate of the world and rising friction between North Korea and the US, as well as the recent loss of one of the world’s finest minds, Stephen Hawking, it’s no surprise that we need something to celebrate and “feel good” about. So let’s start things off with trending colours this season.

Pastel hues! Wait…again? Pastel colours have made their debut on the catwalk already in recent years, so it was surprising to see them appear again through the likes of Victoria Beckham and Michael Kors. The hues were different to what we’ve seen before as they had more of an ice cream tone. Head-to-toe violet from Victoria Beckham, a zingy lemon sorbet shade from Hermes, and even a soft bubblegum from Helmut Lang. These ice cream colours are a fabulous addition for the wardrobe, because if you’re fair skinned, they’re soft enough so you don’t appear washed out, and if you’re dark skinned the colours will ‘pop’ and give a beautifully delicate contrast. What we have noticed with our bespoke dyeing service is that more brides / fashionistas are having their shoes dyed pastel colours. On a lace detailed shoe, the colour is breath-taking and works with a range of outfits.

The Crayola Spectrum

These wonderful colours are still as popular as ever – with the brightest hues from the palette being used across all different outfits from MSGM, Versace, and gorgeous floor-length maxi dress and trousers from Roksanda. With these kind of looks, the bigger the contrast the better the match. If you’re wearing a shocking shade of pink, then adorn your feet with an equally shocking shade of orange shoes. Wearing colours like these will make even the greyest day sunny. Shoes are following the same trend which you can see from the Spring / Summer collection from Rochas. We also saw a pair of Marni shoes in a bright mustard-yellow satin, which would look fabulous with a royal blue blazer.

Exposed

This Spring the fashion houses of Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Dior have all showcased beautiful garments which, following the colours of the ice cream tones, do a wonderous job of highlighting the feminine features of the body. We were especially enthralled by the shoulderless dress by Dolce & Gabbana in a sweeping tulle and lace material. The texture was almost a nod towards Morticia Addams, and we’re here for it. In addition to the exposed body, more minimalist shoes appear on the runway with nude patent and leathers.

Fantastic Plastics

Cast your minds back to the Autumn / Winter collections of Raf Simons at Calvin Klein. Remember it? Good, well it’s his fault that plastics have become a popular trend for Spring due to his collection featuring vinyl. Maybe they decided that the future wasn’t about stain remover, but fabrics that could easily be wiped clean. The poncho / boots ensemble by Chanel was decadent, but the outlook for foggy feet is not so good. Perspex shoes have been around for a while but it’s only recently that they’ve really taken off. Some have textured embellishments on the quarter and counter and have a Perspex toe box to show off the little piggies.

Kitsch Me if You Can

While there has been an array of gorgeous shoes, questionable shoes, and some just outright triumphant shoes on the catwalk, a lot have a similar theme – embellishments and embroidered kitsch. The ones that stole the show for me were Dolce & Gabbana. It looked as if the models were wearing renaissance-inspired pop art, and it was glorious. One was a pair of block silver sandals that was smothered in crystals and gems – the perfect addition of any woman looking for a party shoe.
