NEW YORK, Nov 14, 2013/ — Opening its first pop-up store in New York City on Tuesday, November 12th, Kipling gathered New York’s most fun and fierce to witness the ceremonial “unzipping” to officially open the whimsical outlet.
It began with VF Sportswear President Karen Murray, Kipling President Julie Dimperio, and Kipling Vice President Kathy Hines “unzipping” the crinkle nylon covered doors. Crossing threshold with them are the guests who entered a colorful courtyard with reflective picnic tables, an AstroTurf floor, and a ceiling installation of iconic New York monuments.
An 8’ by 10’ inflatable, crinkle nylon replica of one of the brand’s most iconic styles, the Defea, was the centerpiece of the room. And the fun began from there!
The fully branded pop-up space was filled with playful activities like complimentary on-site monogramming, transformative makeup vanities from VMV Hypoallergenics, visual sensationalism, bountiful bites, and crowd-sourced inspiration.
Imaginative, individualized experiences like comedic personality readings stimulated the senses – creating a truly “out of the bag” adventure.
A surprise musical performance by the all-male string quartet Well Strung, deemed “the hottest things with a bow since Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games“ by The New York Daily News, spiced up the night before DJ Speakeasy and DJ Haruka Salt took over.
Throughout the night, bloggers Robin Arzon of Shut Up And Run and Nai Vasha of Jill Of All Skills helped guests fully engage in the space by encouraging them to jump into the GIF booth or shop the showroom.
Through these experiential, participative encounters, Kipling celebrated each individual’s special connection to his or her Kipling bag and the introduction of the brand’s Monogram Collection. The excitement continued into the digital space with colorful content central to #MyKiplingBag shared across all platforms by guests at the event.
Following the New York pop-up, Kipling will take the party down to Hawaii for a night of luau fun and to Miami for a festive Latin breakfast full of flare. No matter the city, it’s bound to be a wildly quirky and fabulously fun time.
