Juicy Couture Enters Licensing Agreement for Sunglasses & Footwear
By Mari Davis

NRF DALLAS, Mar 15, 2005/ FW/ --- Liz Claiborne-owned Juicy Couture announced yesterday two licensing agreements that will expand its product lines to sunglasses and footwear that are expected to launch in Spring 2006.

The Los Angeles-based company had entered a partnership with the Safilo Group, the Italian company renowned for its innovative designs and exemplary quality.

The footwear license was awarded to Schwartz and Benjamin Inc., an international leader in fashion footwear.

Pamela Skaist Levy and Gela Nash Taylor, founders of Juicy Couture expect the new sunwear line to be in stores by November 2005 and the ophthalmic collection to be ready in March 2006.

Fondly called P&G by the fashion flock, both Pamela and Gela stated “"We are totally obsessed with shoes, and we can’t wait designing,” on the announcement of their first footwear collection.

Founded in 1996 with a pair of scissors, a bag of T-shirts and $200 between them, Juicy Couture co-designers, P&G created the Juicy phenomenon beginning with a line of T-shirts that immediately flew out of every store that carried them.

Based on this success, P&G applied their designs to revolutionizing denim wear, expanding into the jeans market with the launch of Juicy Jeans in 1999.

This natural progression, led the duo to later introduce a line of cashmere sweaters and scarves inspired by the styles and trends of the 80's London punk rock scene and such icons as Johnny Rotten and the Sex Pistols.

Building on this momentum, in Spring 2001, P&G created a new Juicy twist to affordable fashion by designing the Juicy Tracksuit.

For Spring/ Summer 2003, P&G launched Juicy Couture's largest and most elaborate collection ever. With five new line extensions, Juicy has rounded out the collection, creating a 'Juicy lifestyle' that includes Down Dog Couture Yoga, Menswear, Swim, Baby, Sleepwear and Accessories.

In May 2003, Liz Claiborne Inc. purchased 100% of Juicy Couture and the Juicy phenomenon kept on expanding to include Juicy Beach, and Juicy Barbie® dolls.
