DALLAS, Dec 14, 1998/ FW/ --- The whole year round there are holidays and Visual Merchandisers use them as cue to change their displays.
Of course, it goes without saying that the atmosphere created inside the store also sublimally tells customers to buy.
Valentine I
Hearts! That's what Visual Merchandisers think for Valentine's Day display. This window has hearts and it is merchandise! What a great idea to use heart-shaped picture frames! This window shows a non-traditional way to use forms also. The forms were used to display merchandise other than clothes (in this case picture frames and perfume). Red background and hearts of different colors falling from the ceiling. As a display artist, don't be afraid to be non-traditional. Experiment.
Valentine II
Four realistic mannequins were used in this rotating window of cookies, presented as Valentine gifts. Boxes of cookies were stacked almost waist high, and opened boxes showing how the cookies look like. Red, traditional Valentine colors are predominant in the scene.
Halloween
Straight forward window of mannequins wearing Halloween costumes with very minimal use of props. Disco balls, a pumpkin and a broom are the only ones used. The clothes did all the talking.
Thanksgiving I
A pumpkin and a violin sound incongruent yet look perfect in reality as an elegant Thanksgiving display.
Thanksgiving II
Pumpkins and fall leaves say it all for this Thanksgiving / fall window in a watch & jewelry store.
Christmas Fable
A ballerina receiving gifts.
Christmas Nymphs
Come live with me and be my love, wrote Christopher Marlowe during the 1500. It is almost the end of the 20th century, and we still remember him. Two wood nymphs in a Christmas Fantasy Window. The scroll telling their story. But I still remember Marlowe, the shepherd asking the nymph to marry him.
Christmas Elf
The Christmas theme in a busy floor of a department store. A mannequin sitting on top of a grand piano, sorrounded by gift boxes, both opened and unopened with an animated elf nearby. Looks unrelated, but they are - it is the location, the feeling of being so busy, hurrying to wrap Christmas presents! And of course, as a personal note, I just cannot resist grand pianos and girls sitting on it, whether they are mannequins or humans. It has that romantic side on it.
