Tiffany & Co. Christmas Windows in New York
Store Windows: November 2000 Reviewed by Mari Davis Photos by Tom Massey
This philosophy is translated to their store windows which are always exquisite and luxurious. For Christmas 2000, the theme of Tiffany's store windows is "Treasures Under the Sea."
A mermaid and fishes adorn this store window. The mermaid is holding "treasures" which can be purchased inside Tiffany of course! All the props are all white and the background is dark blue fabric crimpled to look like an underwater scene. The only color is coming from the jewelry, hence it stands out and easily seen.
A closer look at the mermaid. You can see the waterplant growing in the middle of the window, which actually draws you eyes to the mermaid's hand held up high holding a brooch. The props were made of styrofoam but treated with Gesso or another type of paint to hide the styrofoam capsules, making it look clean and blemishless.
A pair of seahorses and giant shells. The seaweed has the "treasures" just floating around. The beauty of this window is that it really looks like an underwater scene. Everything seem to float!
A whimsical look at life underwater. Here the mermaid is making Christmas stocking in the shape of a fish. And the other fishes are checking them out, wondering what is in there for them. The mermaid is wearing the "treasure" - a necklace.
The "treasure" came from above, in the form of a shipwreck. The mermaid found it and want you to keep quiet about it, with her index finger oh her mouth, saying Shhhhhhh... The treasure is in a Tiffany box of course!
Now this is hilarious! Three fishes reading a letter to Santa. The letter is attached to a fish hook! Will they bite? Tiffany store windows can always titilate your imagination.
