Store Window NEW YORK, Dec 1, 2000/FW/ --- Madison Avenue, the center of the advertising universe – it’s only fitting that store windows in the area function more than just a display and be an advertising by itself.

  • Loro Piana

  • Location: 821 Madison Avenue (at 68th Street), New York, NY 10021, Tel: (212)980-7961

Well known for their luxurious cashmeres (the family has been supplying fabric to royalty and fashion designers for a hundred years), it is not surprising to see lots of knits and sweaters in the Loro Piana window. Now the interesting part - the Christmas balls that were used to decorate the free-standing shelves. Simple and straight-forward, yet very attractive and effective.

  • MacKenzie-Childs

  • Location: 824 Madison Avenue (at 69th Street), New York, NY 10021, Tel: (212)980-7961

Collectible and gift shop store MacKenzie-Childs always come up with very interesting windows that always put a smile on my face when I see it. Is it a globle? It is an urn, or is it a clock? It almost has a circus theme to it. And just for your reference, these are real merchandise!

  • Madison Avenue Bookstore

  • Location: 833 Madison Avenue (at 69th Street), New York, NY 10021, Tel: (212)535-6130

If you are in Madison Avenue, amidst those beautiful store windows, you have to decorate for Christmas although you are bookstore. And that is exactly what Madison Avenue Bookstore did. Their mascot, half-sized lay figure sits on a reinder made of twigs. The antique lay-figure is also wearing a Santa hat. They made him a Christmas elf!

  • Max Mara (www.maxmara.com)

  • Location: 813 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10022, Tel: (212)879-6100

An abstract mannequin with a tumbleweed holding a lighted ball inside. The dramatic element of this window is the background! Made of translucent fabric, it was created to look like a screen. Lights were strategically place behind it so that it will give a monochromatic glow!

  • Michael Kors Fashion (www.michaelkors.com)

  • Location: 974 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10021, Tel: (212)452-4685

Michael Kors does not need any introduction to fashionistas and fashion followers! His name is synonymous to luxurious and gorgeous clothes. That is the reason why this Michael Kors store windows is clutter-free. No props. Three headless mannequins, occupying a vast space! Again, it's the lighting here. The spotlights illuminates only the mannequins, forming little circles.

  • Moschino (www.moschino.it)

  • Location: 803 Madison Avenue (at 67th Street), New York, NY 10022, Tel: (212)639-9600

Artwalk New York is a benefit for the Coalition for the Homeless. Moschino supports this charity and sales of these bags benefits the homeless. Businesses today are part of the community and taking part in charitable endevours is commendable.

  • Prada (www.prada.com)

  • Location: 28 East 70th Street, New York, NY 10021, Tel: (212)327-4200

Ice cubes! They serve as background and prop. The background is actually a free-standing shelf, each "ice cube" carved out so that merchandise can be displayed. A headless mannequin complete the presentation. Every accessory that is on display match the outfit she is wearing.

  • Michael Kors Accessories

  • It was snowing and cold while we were in New York. When I saw this store window, I nearly bought it myself! Gorgeous hat! Although this is a full sized window, it was made smaller by using a pedestal so that smaller items like accessories can be displayed.
