DALLAS, Apr 1, 2000/ FW/ --- Putting on the Arms and Hands
- Insert the arm through the sleeves. If the sleeves are wide enough to insert from the bottom of the sleeves, insert the top part of arm through it. If the sleeves are too narrow, insert the "hand" end
of the arm from the shoulder of the dress to the armhole.
- With one hand, hold the arm of the mannequin, and with your other hand, "feel" the receiving hole for the arm. (You cannot see the hole anymore because of the clothes if the outfit have sleeves)
- Insert the locking device (Fig 4) into the hole. Turn clockwise or counterclockwise until you hear the "locking" click.
- Add the accessories (watch, bracelet) before putting on the hands.
Finishing Touches
Now the fun part!
- Adjust the garment so that it fits the mannequin nicely. Use pins (preferably silk pins so that you don't leave a big hole in the garment) to
at the back of the garment so that customers will not see it.
- Wigs - Attach the wig to the head so that the hair falls in a natural fashion. If you need tape it, use double stick tape (recommendation - the
black double stick tape manufactured by 3M- it does not leave marks when you take it off).
- Fix the mannequin's make-up if needed.
- Add accessories like a handbag or earrings as necessary.
Notes
- Some VMs prefer not to use the base in store windows. The receving rod is screwed directly on the floor. It gives the
presentation a cleaner look.
- Mannequins used for floor displays are usually kept on their bases for easy movement (maintenance doing their cleaning, salesclerks moving
stocks)
- Avoid mixing mannequin windows and floor display windows. Mannequin windows usually keep their freshness. Floor display
mannequins usually have a "tired" look in them.
